Arya Jafari

Arya Jafari

Arya Jafari is a photographer for the semi-official ISNA News Agency in Isfahan and a member of the Press Photographers' Association and has won several awards for his work. He was arrested during the nationwide uprising in 2022. He was once arrested previously for his photographs in the case of acid attacks on women in Isfahan.

The murder of Mahsa Amini triggered a country-wide uprising in September 2022 in Iran. The protests were initially sporadical around the country and against the mandatory hijab. But in a few days, dozens of cities in Iran became the scenes of clashes between protesters and security forces. The protesters' main demands were freedom of attire and the overthrow of the Islamic Republic. The focus of the protests on women led to international attention. <symbol-timeline></symbol-timeline>

The statement adds: > It is self-evident that we can't complain about the popularity of the media abroad and at the same time ignore the society's need for independent media and create illegal barriers for journalists and media and summon or arrest journalists for covering the events. Such a level of contradiction is not understandable. The journalists guild demands the release of our colleagues for them to be allowed to do their jobs. </reference> </coverage-outsourcing>
