Ayatollah Mohammad Reza Nekounam is a Shia Cleric. Despite his old age and illness, he has been arrested several times and sentenced to prison for his views. Many of his supporters believe he was arrested due to his criticism of Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi. He was arrested before the revolution as well
