  • <coverage-outsourcing id='25646'> Hojat Nabavi, from the Branch Two of Birjand’s Revolutionary Court sentenced Baha’i citizens Bahman Salehi, Firooz Ahmadi, Khalil Melaki, Bijan Ahmadi, Sohrab Melaki, Maryam Mokhtari, Simin Mohammadi, Saqar Mohammadi and Shida Abedi to five years in prison on the charge of “membership in an illegal organization of the false sect of Baha’ism which disrupts security” and one year in prison on the charge of “propagating on behalf of the Baha’i organization as a group and organization opposed to the sacred regime of the Islamic Republic.” After the application of Article 134, this will be reduced to five years. The following stipulation was used to reject the lawyer chosen by the accused: “Due to the case, only lawyers approved by the respected chief of the Judiciary can enter security and important cases.” This is while many consider this stipulation to be a violation of the Iranian constitution. The charge sheet is also notable for its explicit statements based on conspiracy theories of the judge about the Baha’is </coverage-outsourcing>
