Mahmoud Mehrabi
.Mahmoud Mehrabi is from Mobarakeh. He was a municipality employee and was forced by the municipality security to resign. He was persecuted and framed for his lifestyle which the state considers undesirable. He was also arrested during the 2022 uprising and disappeared for a while.
The national uprising of 2022 centered around the “woman, life, freedom” slogan was triggered in response to the murder of Mahsa (Zhina) Amini. The protests began sporadically in several cities and online space but in just a few days it spread to dozens of cities across Iran and the goal of the protesters changed to overthrowing the regime. <symbol-timeline></symbol-timeline>
- <coverage-outsourcing id='50198'> The Mehrabi family told IPA that Mahmoud Mehrabi was arrested at his workplace in Mobarakeh Municipality. The agents also searched his old and current homes without a warrant. According to IPA, his sister's house which is next to his was also searched without a warrant and his personal laptop and some electronic devices were confiscated at these three locations. His family told IPA: > About a year later Mahmoud told us that they had hung me from my hands and kept lashing me so I would sign some papers without knowing their content. He also told the family: > I didn't sign the papers. I never thought I could resist for so long. His family told IPA that several employees of the municipality were behind the case against him and used their connections to threaten him and his family members repeatedly. He was chastised several times at the municipality for wearing a tie on foreign trips. The municipality security told him repeatedly: > Ties are agitating and using them is against Sharia conventions. Saeed Bagheri, the chief of security of Mobarakeh municipality and a close relative of a prominent Shia cleric, and Fereshteh Salehi, a city council member of Mobarakeh were among those responsible for the cases against him. The Mehrabi family explained that these individuals pushed their agenda with the help of the chief of Intelligence in Mobarakeh, Mr. Asghari. After his release, Mr. Mehrabi and his family were threatened and interrogated many times by the Intelligence Ministry and the security police. Several cases were filed against him without the family's knowledge and they would only find out about them after the order of non-suit. Due to these pressures, Mr. Mehrabi resigned from his position at the municipality. </coverage-outsourcing>

- <coverage-outsourcing id='50200'> After arriving at the third branch of the court of Mobarakeh, he was charged with sacrilege against the first Shia Imam and was transferred to Alef-Ta lockup in Isfahan Prison. This case was opened after the complaint from Saeed Bagheri, the former chief of security and current deputy mayor of Mobarakeh, and accused him of disrupting public order. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison even though the judge had previously said during the trial that the maximum sentence for this case is five years (Article 134: five years enforceable). </coverage-outsourcing>
- <coverage-outsourcing id='50205'> According to an IPA source, the appeal court of Isfahan cleared him of the previous charge and sentenced him to two years in prison and 70 lashes for another charge. The case was later closed after the plaintiff dropped the complaint. </coverage-outsourcing>

According to IPA research, branch two of the Mobarakeh Court presided by investigating judge Mostafa Karbasi is in charge of this case. Ms. Mehrabi was arrested for "disrupting public order" for her constant visits to court to follow up on his case. She was released three days later. The agents confiscated all the CCTV at his home. His release has been prevented while the investigator of the case told him verbally last week that he will be released soon. According to this source, the prison health department ordered him to be sent to the hospital, but the judge overseeing the prison prevented his transfer. In response to the family's follow-up for medical treatment, the investigator told them that this issue is not related to the investigation and that the supervising judge is the one who makes the decision.
