He was sentenced to execution in a flawed trial. He was previously arrested during the 1980s due to political reasons. Two of his brothers were executed during the 1980s executions. One of his children is currently the MEK's Camp Liberty. His wife, son, and daughter in law are also imprisoned

Even though, it is claimed that the reason for this transfer was the publication of Esmail Abadi, Arash Sadeghi and Soheil Arabi’s pictures in Evin’s ward 350, but according to the previous statements of the prison authorities, it is possible that the closing of this ward, like the collective transfer of political prisoners of Rajaei Shahr prison in Karaj that took place two months before, was the product of prior planning.
