Amir Javad Asaadzadeh

Amir Javad Asaadzadeh, 36, was arrested and brutally tortured in Mashhad during the nationwide uprising triggered by the murder of Mahsa Amini. A day after his arrest he was transferred to the hospital where he died as a result of torture.

The murder of Mahsa Amini triggered a country-wide uprising in September 2022 in Iran. The protests were initially sporadical around the country and against the mandatory hijab. But in a few days, dozens of cities in Iran became the scenes of clashes between protesters and security forces. A person close to him told Iran International that his family that night realized he was arrested for graffiti. In an audio file that aired on Iran International, a friend of his sister explained that after their father went to court to follow up on his son's situation, the case prosecutor told him that his son's hand was hurt with a taser and he is in the hospital, but didn't tell him the name of the hospital. So the family checked different hospitals until they found out that he has died in Javad ul-Aemmeh Hospital. According to Iran International's source, the hospital staff told his sister that last night the Intelligence forces brought Amir Javad Asadzadeh's half-dead body to the emergency room but they didn't let us resuscitate him, and after he died they took his body with them.
