Atefeh Naami
Atefeh Naami was from Ahvaz and lived in Karaj. Ms. Naami disappeared at the same time as the nationwide uprising of 2022 and her body was discovered in her house a few days later. Her family said that the government tried to "stage" the cause of her death as suicide, but the evidence, including signs of torture, proves that she was "murdered".
The national uprising of 2022 centered around the “woman, life, freedom” slogan was triggered in response to the murder of Mahsa (Zhina) Amini. The protests began sporadically in several cities and online space but in just a few days it spread to dozens of cities across Iran and the goal of the protesters changed to overthrowing the regime. <symbol-timeline></symbol-timeline>

According to Mohammad Amin Naami's account to Iranwire, the niece and their relatives who entered the house discovered Atefeh's body in a condition where it was left on the terrace and a blanket was drawn over the body. Mr. Noami further adds that the gas hose was near his sister's mouth and a carpet was spread under the body. In an interview with the Iran Human Rights Campaign, Mr. Naami emphasized that the blanket they threw over Atefe did not belong to his sister's house, and the agents immediately destroyed the blanket. Mr. Naami stated in this interview that the evidence shows that his sister was killed and the body was carried home on a blanket. According to him, the signs of torture were evident on Ms. Noami's body, and this is proof that the cause of death was not suicide, but rather murder. According to this report, after arriving at the place where the body was discovered, the officer of the Homicide Department said that the scene was "staged for suicide". In a part of his interview, Mr. Naami explained his sister's background and activities in the 2022 uprising: > Atfeh was an active participant in the protests. She was identified as one of the leaders of the protests in Karaj. She had received threatening calls and messages to the point where she installed a CCTV camera inside her house for security and used another phone line to contact us. </reference> </coverage-outsourcing>
