Saeed Azizi

Saeed Azizi

Saeed Azizi is an Iranian-Swedish citizen who was arrested and sentenced to prison during a trip to Tehran.

The trial of the former assistant prosecutor of Gohardasht prison, Hamid Nouri, began in Sweden based on the principle of universal jurisdiction, and on charges of involvement in "war crime" and "intentional murder" during the mass execution of political prisoners in the summer of 1988. As a result, relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Sweden became tense. Following these tense relations, the Islamic Republic government has been arresting Swedish citizens and dual citizens and accusing them of espionage or cooperation with hostile governments, and using them as pawns to get concessions from the West. <symbol-timeline></symbol-timeline>
