Hossein Ronaghi Maleki

Hossein Ronaghi Maleki

<p>Hossein Ronaghi Maleki is a blogger. He was arrested and sentenced to prison for his cooperation with Iran Proxy, with the goal of producing anti-filters and fighting censorship. After a long hunger strike and suffering severe illnesses in prison, he was released with the order of non-suit. Mr. Ronaghi is also known by his alias “Babak Khorramdin."</p>

<p>There have been numerous violations in Hossein Ronaghi’s case. The violations begin from the moment of his arrest and continue during his time in prison. He was repeatedly beaten, wounded, and physically and psychologically tortured by the interrogators. In an attempt to get a forced confession from Hossein Ronaghi, the IRGC intelligence agents physically tortured his brother while psychologically torturing Hossein by forcing him to hear his brother getting tortured. Mr. Ronaghi reported these violations in many letters, but the responsible institutions did not respond. In protest of these violations by the judiciary and the security organizations, he went on several hunger strikes, and the last one led to his freedom. Mr. Ronaghi was arrested in 2021 for his free speech activities and demanding justice.</p> <symbol-timeline></symbol-timeline>

Later in a letter on his blog to one of his interrogators, referred to as Hadj Naser, he described his arrest and his beating: “I remember you were sitting on my left (inside the car) and kept punching my side, and I cried out loud from pain; But you laughed and said: nice acting mother…. and kept on hitting harder.” Based on the information that Mr. Ronaghi published in the letter, aside from Hadj Naser, another interrogator referred to as Tavkkoli also tortured Hossein and his brother. Regarding his brother’s torture, Hossein Ronaghi wrote: “You hit my brother with batons, whips, and electric shock to a point that he couldn’t even muster the energy to cry out. In order to pressure and force me to confess, you tortured him so hard that his spine was damaged, his teeth were broken, and the bottoms of his feet were wounded for weeks, and he couldn’t even walk or stand on his own legs.” Mr. Ronaghi’s brother was finally released on bail after two months. According to Mr. Ronaghi, he was held in terrible conditions in a 70 to 150 cm cell without a window. He emphasized that he was physically tortured in that detention center which caused bleeding from his mouth and head. </reference> </coverage-outsourcing>

The judge refers to the material that Mr. Ronaghi had published in connection with the killing of Armita Geravand. After issuing this verdict, Mr. Ronaghi explained part of the defense presented in the court: > In the trial, my lawyer requested that the full video of the moment of the assault [on Armita Geravand] in the subway be reviewed, but this did not happen. Although the court stated the basis of the ruling as "response to inquiry", but in this case there is no video, inquiry, or document about the deterioration of the health of Armita Geravand or her fall. I still believe that Armita Geravand was killed because of the hijab issue, and if the security institutions and the judiciary believe that this is a lie, they should publicly release the videos related to the subway station and inside the cabin, as requested in the defense. </reference> </coverage-outsourcing>
