A bomb was detonated during a drill conducted by the miltary in Mahabad, resulting in the deaths of a number of spectators. The next day Heidar Mossallahi, the Interim Intelligence Minister, announced that the elements behind this bombing had been identified. Three days later, Abdolrasoul Mahmoudabadi, Commander of the Hamzeh Military Base in Urmia, reported that 30 individuals involved in this bombing had been killed and that only a handful of those involved are currently at large and fugitives from the law. The day after, Mohammad Pakpour, Interim Commander of the IRGC's Infantry reported that members of the group responsible for the bombings had been killed. On the same day, Ali Abdollahi, Security Deputy of the Intelligence Ministry, reported that they are following clues to arrest the last remaining members of those responsible for the bombing. Hossein Osmani, Saber Sheikh Abdollah, and Diakou Rasoulzadeh were arrested for their involvement in this case three years later.
