According to Hrana, four political prisoners in Karaj (Amirali Moradi, Mehdi Farahi Shandiz, Alireza Barzegar and Mohammad Riazat) published a letter to Ali Khamenei to explain the bad conditions of the Karaj prison. The letter reads: “We wonder: Why is it that in all of the Islamic World, of which you are the leader (!), Iranian prisons see the lowest observance of human rights? Don’t you claim that Islam is a religion of kindness?” The prisoners say drugs and other contraband are easily found in prison, whereas facilities are lacking. Many prisoners sleep in the hallways on the ground. There is no suitable heat and cold system. Prisoners have problems with bed bugs and louses. Addressing Mr Khamenei, the letter says: “Non-observance of human rights is not correct and is no way to go forward. Especially for you who claim to be running a government of divine justice.”
