Mahboubeh Mousavi

Mehboubeh Mousavi, a Persian literature student and a resident of Ahvaz, was arrested twice by security agents during the Women, Life, Freedom Uprising in 2022.

The national uprising of 2022 centered around the “woman, life, freedom” slogan was triggered in response to the murder of Mahsa (Zhina) Amini. The protests began sporadically in several cities and online space but in just a few days it spread to dozens of cities across Iran and the goal of the protesters changed to overthrowing the regime. <symbol-timeline></symbol-timeline>

An IPA source told Atlas that she was taken to the police station located on the National Highway after her arrest. According to this source, Mrs. Mousavi's left eyelid was hit by a pellet in Ahvaz at the same time as the 2022 uprising in late September, but her eye was not seriously damaged. </coverage-outsourcing>

While announcing this news to Atlas, an informed source told Atlas that Mahboubeh Mousavi was arrested at around 6:00 PM; after a fight and a chase, the security forces shot at her and she was injured in the shoulder area by pellets (birdshot). According to the IPA sources, the security agents kept Mahboubeh and a number of other detainees in a van until hours of the night and then transferred them to one of the safe houses of the Intelligence Ministry on the 6th street of Kianpars near Idon. This informed source told Atlas about the physical condition of Mahboubeh Mousavi at the time of her arrest: "She was bleeding profusely and had endured a lot of pain. Also, after being transferred to this safe house, the officers separated the injured protesters and did not allow them to have any conversation. Mehboubeh was transferred to another safe house that night, which is probably located at the end of the 8th street of Kianpars. Upon arrival, Mehboubeh was asked to take off all her clothes in order to subject her to a body search. After that, she was transferred to a solitary room measuring about six square meters. According to Atlas research, this house is a villa consisting of a large number of rooms, in each of which the detainees are kept individually, and there was no possibility of communication between the detainees and only the sound of the interrogations could be heard. According to Atlas sources, during the first days of Mahboubeh Mousavi's transfer to this safe house, her injuries were bandaged and she was injected with anesthesia. During her detention, she was physically tortured by electric shock, in such a way that her toes were severely damaged. </reference> </coverage-outsourcing>
• <coverage-outsourcing id='51768'> An informed source told Atlas that on the third day of her detention, a female interrogator went to the room where she was kept alone and promised to help her, claiming that she had come on behalf of her family. According to the report, the interrogator told Mahboubeh Mousavi that they planned to release her, but then an Israeli website published the news of her arrest. This interrogator also tried to insinuate the support of the "Israeli media" from Mahbubeh to get her to confess that she was in contact with the Mossad. Ms. Mousavi was threatened with persecution in this interrogation and the interrogator informed her that if she accepted the scenario of the interrogator, the court would reduce her sentence. </coverage-outsourcing>

While announcing this news to IPA, an informed source told Atlas that in the days after her arrest, Mahboubeh Mousavi was denied access to a lawyer, phone calls to her family, and visits, and no accusations were made during the arrest process. According to the source close to Ms. Mousavi, in response to the family's follow-up, the security institutions and judicial authorities in Ahvaz had claimed ignorance about Mahbobeh's arrest and had even informed her family that their daughter had probably run away from home with her boyfriends. According to the Atlas source, the security forces also announced in one case that Mehboubeh's legs were broken in order to psychologically pressure the family, or in another case, they announced to the family of Mahbooba Mousavi that a body was found in Khorramabad that matches the profile of their child. This source emphasized that under intense psychological pressure, Mahboubeh's family finally realized the falsehood of the agents' claims after going to the relevant institutions in Khorramabad. </coverage-outsourcing>

According to Mahboubeh Mousavi, she and her family are still under severe pressure from the security forces to give in to their demands for forced confessions and deny the news related to her arrest and injury. She also added that the agents summoned her many times after her release and "her resistance to these pressures has cost her heavily." In the video that Ms. Mousavi says was recorded in February, she addresses the people and says that she kept thinking that she was being followed by some people, but when she discussed the matter with her lawyer, the lawyer told her that this happens to most of those who are released from detention, and there is no need to worry. In this video, she also addressed the wound on her face: > Someone approached me on a motorcycle without a license plate and pushed me, and my head hit the edge of the sidewalk and I was injured. Mahbubeh Mousavi confirmed in her new video that the security pressures on her have increased to the point that her academic qualifications have been revoked, she has lost her job and her bank account has been frozen.
