Voice of America has reported on the continued restrictions against female political prisoners at Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad. These restrictions were imposed following a visit by inmates from Ward 6 with political prisoner Fatemeh Sepehri, reportedly on the orders of a prison officer named Jamileh Rahimzadeh.
According to Voice of America, a released inmate stated that the doors to Wards 5 and 6 were shut without explanation, and access to facilities such as the infirmary, commissary, kitchen, gym, and workshops was entirely cut off for several days.
The report further notes that a hunger strike by Farzaneh Ghareh-Hasanlou, Fahimeh Tashakkori, Aghrin Sedighi, and Zahra Kohnehkar, in protest of the lack of outdoor time and poor bathing conditions, prompted the prison warden, Hadi Esmaeilzadegan, to promise a review of their demands. However, the only change implemented so far has been that inmates are now only allowed to leave their ward if accompanied by a prison officer.
