Amir Mehdipour

Amir Mehdipour is a member of East Azerbaijan Bar Association. He was arrested in the wave of arrests of activists, at the same time as the nationwide uprising in response to the murder of Mahsa Amini.

The murder of Mahsa Amini triggered a country-wide uprising in September 2022 in Iran. The protests were initially sporadical around the country and against the mandatory hijab. But in a few days, dozens of cities in Iran became the scenes of clashes between protesters and security forces. The protesters' main demands were freedom of attire and the overthrow of the Islamic Republic. The focus of the protests on women led to international attention. <symbol-timeline></symbol-timeline>

Amir Mahdipour, a lawyer and one of the four lawyers against whom the Bar Association's Disciplinary Court has issued this indictment, while sending IPA the summons of the Bar Association's Disciplinary Court, which was signed by Akbar Rezapourfard, the Association's Disciplinary Prosecutor, told Atlas: "The Bar Association's Disciplinary Court of East Azarbaijan plans to revoke the license of human rights lawyers who defended the citizens at the same time as the protests, on the charge of violating their oath.
