Shir Ahmad Shirani was transferred from Zahedan detention center to the Zahedan prison in the of winter or beginning of spring of 2012. He told HRANA that while at the detention center in Zahedan he had no contact with his family, and in a way they did not even know whether or not he is alive. He was incarcerated in solitary for nearly two years. The intelligence agents would bind his legs and “use a thick cable to beat the bottom of the feet repeatedly.” The scars from the torture are still visible many years later, his nose and teeth are broken. They have also connected him to electric currents. He, also, claims that the torture was such that they “held him responsible for all that had happened in the region.” Also, it should be noted, that he went on hunger strike while at the detention center

Shir Ahmad Shirani was transferred from Garmi prison in Ardabil to Meshkin Shahr prison in the same province. Regarding this transfer, he told HRANA, “ For three and a half years I lived with individuals who were inflicted by drug addiction and who were the homeless orphans of the town, who had lost their families and lives to drug addiction. They had no constancy of character or behavior regarding others or themselves and were in a constant depressive state.
